The International Society for the Sociology of Music Education was formed in January 2021, when a formal task force coalesced around the growing interest in sociology of music education, building on the symposia held with increasing regularity since 1995. The ISSME task force, led by Jennifer Lang, formalized the society’s structure during the society’s meeting in the summer of 2021.
